Messaggio degli studenti del Liceo Renzo Levi in occasione della Giornata della Memoria
27 gennaio 201974 years ago today, the Red Army freed the few survivors left from the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp; place which for years had symbolized seamless persecution and excruciating agony. As jews we hereby stand, 74 years after the liberation of our ancestors, to witness and testify for those whose lives were unjustly lost. We gather today to recount such unprecedented tragedy as to ensure that such abomination will never recur. All individuals, regardless of their religion or belief, should and must be aware of the history that precedes them, for knowledge is the only means through which one can conquer ignorance. Each and every one of us has the duty to hearken and impart the witnesses’ testimonies onto the future generations. The responsibility with which we are burdened, however difficult and daring it may appear, is vital for global progress, particularly Israel’s. Thus, as students of the Jewish school of Rome, members of its community and future parents, we must defend and preserve the memory of the Holocaust ensuring that no one remains oblivious to its remembrance.
היום, בדיוק לפני 74 שנים, נפתחו שערי המקום אשר הפך לסמל הרוע והאכזריות האנושית, כאשר כוחות הצבא האדום שיחררו את מעט האסירים שנותרו במחנה הריכוז והשמדה של אושוויץ-בירקנאו. היום 74 שנים מאוחר יותר, אנחנו נציגי העם היהודי עומדים כאן כעדות חיה למה שקרה במטרה להבטיח כי דברים שכאלו לא יקרו עוד לעולם; עלינו מוטלת האחריות להפוך את הזיכרון לעדות חיה שלא תוכל להישכח. אנחנו כאן בכדי לומר את הדברים שכל אדם באשר הוא, יהודי ולא, חייב לזכור. רק דרך הידע, נוכל להילחם בבורות אשר מכתיבה דרכי חשיבה מוטעות ודעות קדומות. בעולם בו הסובלנות כלפי האחר הולכת ונעלמת בעוד שהכחשת השואה הולכת וגדלה, על כל אחד מאיתנו מוטלת החובה לחקוק על ליבו את המילים הנאמרות כיום על ידי העדים המועטים אשר עודם בחיים; ולהעבירם הלאה לדורות הבאים, ביום בו לא יוותר עוד מי שיוכל לספר. עלינו, תלמידי בית הספר היהודי, חברי הקהילה, והורים לעתיד, מוטלת האחריות לנצור בליבנו ולהגן על אותם הזיכרונות שהיו מנת חלקם של הסבים והסבתות שלנו.
En la fecha de hoy, exactamente 74 años atrás, se abrieron las puertas del lugar que representó el emblema de la ferocidad y de la maldad humana. Los ejércitos rojos liberaron a los pocos prisioneros que quedaban en el campamento de Auschwitz-Birkenau. En esta fecha, después de 74 años, nosotros, los judíos, estamos aquí una vez más para deciros lo que sucedió y asegurarnos de que lo que fue nunca más volverá a pasar y haga que este evento sea extremadamente oportuno y no caiga en el olvido. Para enviar el mensaje moral de que cada persona, judía o no, tiene el deber de recordar lo que sucedió, porque solo a través de la información se pueden combatir pensamientos y lugares comunes, hoy como hace 74 años, dictados por la ignorancia. En un mundo cada vez más intolerante y negador, cada uno de nosotros tiene el deber de esculpir en nuestros corazones las palabras que hoy los pocos testigos restantes aún pueden pronunciar, para poder repetirlas a las generaciones futuras cuando ya no existan. Nosotros, como estudiantes de la escuela judía, miembros de la comunidad y padres del mañana, tenemos el deber de defender y preservar la memoria de nuestros abuelos. Dans certe journée, les portes du lieu devenu emblème de la réalité et de la méchanceté humaine ont été ouvertes. Aujourd’hui, après 74 ans, nous, les juifs, nous sommes encore ici pour témoigner ce qui c’est passé et pour éviter que cela ne se reproduise plus jamais. Pour rendre cet événement encore actuel et pour éviter qu’il tombe dans l’oubli. Nous voulons envoyer ce message moral, que tous les hommes,juifs ou non,doivent rappeler ce qui c’est passé car seulement grâce à l’information nous pouvons combattre pensées et lieux communs,dictés, aujourd’hui comme hier, par l’ignorance. Dans ce monde qui est de plus en plus intolérant et négationniste, chacun de nous a le devoir de sculpter dans son coeur les mots que aujourd’hui,seulement les rares témoins restés peuvent encore prononcer pour pouvoir les répéter aux générations futures quand ils ne pourront plus le faire. Nous, en tant qu’étudiants dans une école juive, membres d’une communauté et futurs parents, nous avons le devoir de défendre et préserver la mémoire de nos grands- parents.
Nella data di oggi, esattamente 74 anni fa, si aprivano i cancelli del luogo che ha rappresentato l’emblema della ferocia e della cattiveria umana. Infatti, oggi l’Armata Rossa liberò i pochi prigionieri rimasti nel campo di Auschwitz-Birkenau. Oggi noi ebrei siamo qui, ancora una volta, per testimoniare quanto accaduto e per far sì che ciò che è stato, non capiti mai più; per rendere questa tragedia ancora attuale e non farla cadere nell’oblio; per mandare il messaggio morale che ogni persona, di qualsivoglia religione, ha il dovere morale di ricordare quanto accaduto. È solo così che si possono contrastare pensieri e luoghi comuni, che oggi, come 74 anni fa, sono dettati dalla pura ignoranza. In un mondo sempre più intollerante, antisemita e negazionista, ognuno di noi ha il dovere di scolpire nel proprio cuore le parole che i pochi testimoni rimasti possono ancora pronunciare. Dobbiamo essere in grado di ripeterle alle generazioni future quando loro non potranno più farlo. Ci hanno affidato il compito e la responsabilità più importante: far sì che ciò non accada mai più. Questo dovere non richiede alcuno sforzo estremo, se non quello di non dimenticare mai e tenere sempre viva la memoria. Noi, alunni del Liceo Renzo Levi, membri della Comunità, oggi figli e domani genitori, abbiamo il dovere di difendere e preservare la memoria dei nostri nonni.
